I just find it bleak and depressing ... which is kind of the point, I know. 8 Ace does much the same thing but it still manages to be extremly funny. I read it and considered that everybody in the world (who speaks English) might reasonably laugh at least once at the stuff in there. It's not crude or edgy or challenging - it's just very, very funny.Ninetyeightytwohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07537175150792508067noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3341665527709142645.post-68623032355376448872012-12-12T21:01:34.044+00:002012-12-12T21:01:34.044+00:00There was an exhibition of them in 2006 at Tate Br...There was an exhibition of them in 2006 at Tate Britain, according to Wikipedia, so there's that.TwoHeadedBoyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14946450138433182058noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3341665527709142645.post-82159906452057198072012-12-12T21:00:39.186+00:002012-12-12T21:00:39.186+00:00There might be others like you... Persona...There might be others like you... Surely?

Personally I can't get enough of them, even the shameless Viz rip-offs that have popped up over the years.

A few of these (such as Gilbert Ratchet, the Pathetic Sharks and Felix & His Amazing Underpants) could work well in a children's comic - a long time ago Viz even put out a "kids only" one-off comic, the Pathetic Sharks Summer Special. You might enjoy that one.TwoHeadedBoyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14946450138433182058noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3341665527709142645.post-58439211501111640252012-12-12T20:18:12.494+00:002012-12-12T20:18:12.494+00:00Shame about the ending of that Gilbert Ratchet sto...Shame about the ending of that Gilbert Ratchet story. "This pile of rubbish is good modern art because MODERN ART'S SHIT, YEAH? GET IT? DO YOU GET IT YOU PRETENTIOUS SHIT?!"

I can't believe people are still making that joke.

I like the rest of it though. And, Jack Black excepted, they're all very good strips. If every Drunken Bakers strip were contained within a single loosely structured graphic novel, they'd doubtlessly be lauded as a masterpiece.Ninetyeightytwohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07537175150792508067noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3341665527709142645.post-34668235185301684972012-12-12T03:58:37.728+00:002012-12-12T03:58:37.728+00:00I've never read an issue of Viz. It somehow doesn't seem right. If they could do them (the comics, that is) without all the swearing and crudity, I might be interested.

Having said all that, I know I'm in a minority of one.Kidhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07224781868125924337noreply@blogger.com
